A restored and reimagined monument

Opened in 1938, the Roxy cinema was, for decades, a monument to the Art Deco style and the largest exhibition hall in Brazil, with capacity for up to 1,700 people. With project by the renowned Sérgio Moreira Dias and Ana Lúcia Jucá, Roxy will receive a reinterpretation architectural style with contemporary details, whilst maintaining the main elements that distinguished that important cultural space, present in the affective memory of people and the history of the city. The glamor begins at the entrance, with a new sidewalk made of Portuguese stones that make reference to the famous Copacabana boardwalk.

Its revitalized façade features classic cylindrical columns detached from the frame panels, enhancing their shapes, now with a new golden color, representative of the golden age of cinema. THE renovation of the external frame maintained the transparency and visualization of the space interior.

Upon entering the renowned foyer, the public will be able to perceive the balance between the modernity of the current elements and the construction details preserved since the inauguration, with emphasis on the main staircase, whose pink limestone floor was restored, in addition to the golden railings in their original forms, the internal granite columns black and the old artistic panel located at the top of the central space, preserved and recomposed, representing dance, music and scenic art, advocating the transformation of the cinema into a culturally diverse theater.

New elements were applied to the foyer, making it more current and sophisticated. The floor received absolute black granite, also present in the old square columns of the space. The cylindrical columns received a new golden color. The walls were covered with mirror mosaics, as well as functional panels such as decorative lamps, with details in golden brass, complemented by noble wood joinery. Sconces and Deco style pendant chandeliers were installed in the foyer, completing the ambiance and reminiscent of the style of the original period.

The audience received treatment in carpentry with indirect lighting, with acoustic functions and decorative. The orange carpet and the beautiful golden velvet curtain are elements of highlighted in the composition of the space, translating elegance and comfort. The guardrails of main staircase of the foyer will be elements of reference and integration between the environments of the Roxy, combining history and sophistication.

The lamp dome on the ceiling of the audience was rediscovered and presented according to the project original, measuring 280 square meters and weighing more than two tons, becoming the Roxy's most emblematic architectural style, revitalized to recapture its heyday and, at the same time, at the same time, offer a contemporary structure for entertainment.

The original domed structure, designed by engineer Emílio Henrique Baumgart, was restored, and the entire house received insulation and acoustic comfort treatment.

A cinematic and sensorial journey through Brazil

On the approximately 400 square meter stage, the public will find a panel of 210 square meter concave LED, with 4D technology, which will provide a 180° immersive cinematic experience. This feature will allow you to travel through beauties and icons of Brazil, from Pelourinho, in Salvador, to the depths of Amazon.
